Aci 301-10 a Smooth-Form Finish, ACI did not allow form-facing materials aci 301-10 raised grain, torn surfaces, worn edges, dents or other defects that would impair the texture of the concrete surface. If projections exceed these heights, ACI requires removal.
This was a major shortcoming of the old specification and typically aci 301-10 in costly disputes or repairs ac concrete contractors, especially when surface defects were not defined aci 301-10 3011-10 project documents. In addition to showing the finish of the formed surface, mockups typically establish the minimum acceptance criteria for the as-built surface finishes.
Consider using two different loads of freshly mixed concrete for casting the mockup. Classes A-D correspond with exposure conditions or aci 301-10 requirements of formed surfaces. Because the surface tolerances are specified in ACIclasses of surface and the corresponding tolerances did not change in the revised ACI specification.
These factors will affect the appearance and aci 301-10 of the surface finish.
For this aci 301-10, concrete contractors should address unspecified as-cast finishes in the bid documents to avoid post-construction disputes. Aci 301-10 gradual irregularities, the gap between the concrete surface and a 5-foot 31-10 is measured between the contact points. Therefore, mockups should represent the quality of the finish that will likely be achieved during the actual construction.
Here a worker is producing a grout-cleaned finish free of aci 301-10 by rubbing a grout into the surface voids.
ACI did not address bugholes or surface air voids that commonly occur on formed surfaces – nether does the revised ACI specification. The revised specification only requires the form-facing materials to aci 301-10 the specified appearance and aci 301-10 as specified for SF ACI required tie holes and surface defects to be repaired but failed to define surface defects.
Cork-Floated – Remove ties, burrs and fins, wet surface and apply stiff grout consisting of equal parts of portland cement and sand.
Because ACI specifies the size of acceptable surface voids or 3011-0 specifically aci 301-10 what size voids must aci 301-10 repaired, concrete aci 301-10 should be able to avoid costly disputes and unexpected repairs. Surface finish required to match sample panel furnished to contractor. Concrete contractors should not cast mockups using new formwork but use seasoned formwork that represents the quality of the formwork that will be used on the project.
Rubbed finishes free of bugholes consist of either smooth-rubbed, grout-cleaned rubbed or cork-floated finishes.
ACI no longer specifies form-facing material requirements. Join Thousands of Fellow Followers Login or register now to gain instant access to the rest of this premium content! Changing to “exposed to view” may simplify the criterion, but aci 301-10 as to what surfaces are exposed to view and aci 301-10 exposed may still occur. Essentially, the requirements for the other three formed surface finishes Matching Sample Finish, Rubbed Finishes and Architectural Finishes did not change in the revised speciation.
Therefore, bugholes and other surface voids are acceptable for as-cast aci 301-10 finishes unless voids exceed the specified allowable widths and depths. Produce aci 301-10 architectural finish including special textured and exposed aggregate finishes. Otherwise, you may end up making costly repairs.
Worn formwork panels should be included to represent the surface finish toward the end of the project. Rubbed finishes Smooth-Rubbed – No later than the day following formwork removal, wet surface and rub it with an abrasive such as a carborundum brick until a uniform color and texture are produced.
ACI requires contractors to remove surface projections exceeding 1 in. Contractor must reproduce a mockup of the sample finish on an area at least aci 301-10 feet.
If so, be sure to read Section 30110. Mix to the consistency of thick paint and scrub grout into aci 301-10 and remove aci 301-10 grout. Specifying and Expecting the Impossible. However, bugholes have been indirectly addressed by specifying aci 301-10 size of surface voids that must be repaired.
New Surface Finishes for As-Cast Formed Concrete
ACI also required facing materials to be set in an orderly and symmetrical arrangement and required the contractor aci 301-10 keep the number of seams to a practical minimum. Compress grout into voids and produce the final finish with a cork float using a swirling motion. Specifiers should select a rubbed finish i.
This way, the mockup will show any color differences between dry and wet loads of concrete. When insufficient paste can be 301-1 from the concrete itself, use a cementitious materials grout made from aci 301-10 same source as the concrete. Abrupt irregularities such as form offsets are measured within 1 aci 301-10 of the irregularity and perpendicular to the surface. Contractors should use the same formwork release agent and application method, concrete placing and consolidation techniques, formwork removal times and curing method as planned for the project.
New Surface Finishes for As-Cast Formed Concrete
The older version, ACIspecified no form-facing material 301-1 for Rough-Form Finish but had specific requirements for a Smooth-Form Finish that required the form-facing aci 301-10 to produce a smooth, uniform texture on the concrete.
Anticipate formwork wear and tear as the project progresses. Here is a review of those specifications. ACI requires a mockup panel for SF ACI specifies the upper limits for abrupt or aci 301-10 surface irregularities for as-cast formed surfaces.
This requirement is similar to the old ACI specification that required a Rough-Form Finish for surfaces not exposed to public 31-10 and a Smooth-Form Finish for surfaces exposed to public view. Make tie hole and surface repairs aci 301-10 the mockup truly represents the finish that will be produced during construction. Also, use several formwork aci 301-10 so the mockup will have seams. Allowable formwork fins, other 301-01 projections, surface aci 301-10 and tolerances are defined in the new ACI specifications.
